ListSTAR supercharges your e-mail system into an Internet publishing tool, allowing you to sponsor listserver mailing list discussions and create automated email-on-demand systems for distributing any kind of information. Complete documentation for installing and maintaining ListSTAR is included on this CD.
ListSTAR has an intuitive point and click interface which allows Administrators to quickly set up rules associated with a particular automated email service.
As a listserver, ListSTAR sends and receives mail through a dedicated email account, using rules which automatically add and delete subscribers to mailing lists, forward mail to list members, compile and send out a digest of the list discussions, etc.
Functioning as an email-on-demand system, ListSTAR uses rules to automatically reply to email messages. These replies can be simple email messages, or messages which include text and binary enclosures. In addition, ListSTAR can generate menus and indexes of available files and information which, when checked and returned to ListSTAR, causes ListSTAR to reply with all the requested files and/or information. Once configured, ListSTAR can service a wide range of your company's local or Internet wide email information needs automatically and transparently.
ListSTAR contains fully functioning listserver, email-on-demand and server administration sample services which can be duplicated and customized for your site's needs.
ListSTAR is available in four versions: three for LAN-mail systems and an efficient, higher performance SMTP version.
The LAN-mail versions of ListSTAR make it easy for LAN administrators to integrate ListSTAR into their QuickMail, Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk or POP3 mail environments. In these systems ListSTAR appears and functions like any other email user (accessing and routing mail through an account on the LAN-mail server).
The SMTP version of ListSTAR is configured as an independent SMTP host on a TCP/IP network and provides greater throughput for processing mail.
Note: The POP3 version of ListSTAR can be run on the same machine as MailShare, a POP3/SMTP mail server for Macintosh. The SMTP version of ListSTAR may not reside on the same machine as MailShare.
Use one of the Installer script aliases in the ListSTAR™ folder to install the version of ListSTAR appropriate for your environment (i.e. for QuickMail, Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk, POP3 or the SMTP host version). To activate the trial version of ListSTAR included on this CD, you need to obtain a temporary serial number by contacting StarNine either via the Web (http://www.starnine.com/), via electronic mail (keys@starnine.com), or by calling 1-800-525-2580. Once you have received it, enter the serial number in the dialog box, then click OK.
Note: If you purchased the product, be sure to install the software from the floppy disks included in the box. Your permanent Serial Number is on the registration card also included in the package.
